Let’s see. Hmmmmmmmmm. 3’ long, asymptomatic, and comes out through your pee pee, vagina, rectum, or mouth. I think I might notice that before it emerged.

If I ever go to South Sudan I’m going to take a couple of cases of bottled water along just in case.

I think it might take a couple cases of alcoholic beverage, just to point me in the direction of South Sudan.

And I’m a near teetotaler.

Actually, it emerges through the skin, usually on a lower extremity. It is removed through a very time-consuming process in which the protruding part of the worm is wrapped on a stick or piece of gauze and pulled out an inch or so. Each day, another inch or so is pulled out and wound up on the gauze or stick. The worm cannot be pulled too far on one attempt, or it might break inside the patient, causing the worm to die and resulting in often lethal infections. It takes weeks to remove the worm completely.

Similar worms exist in the US, but only affect wildlife.

In any case, never drink the water without boiling it first.
