A home should be clean enough to be healthy, but dirty enough to be happy.

A home should be clean enough to be healthy, but dirty enough to be happy.

That's my motto. Kitchen and bathroom should be sanitary in the business places, and there should not be clutter in all the main pathways, but slightly messy is okay with me. I wasn't always this way. People used to say "your house is immaculate" — but I'm definitely happier with relaxed standards now that the family is grown.

For instance, if I have a three-day project in the yard, the tools get to live in the kitchen near the back door until I'm done. Once, I would have wrapped up the extension cord for the leaf blower and rinsed all the rakes, trowels and shovels and maybe oiled them and put them all back in the utility closet every night, only to haul them out again the next day. Now, I conserve my energy for things that matter, like posting on FR. -- LOL

My grandmother had a little plaque in her kitchen that said that. :)
