FULL TITLE: Ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy dies on a United Flight after air crew 'order its owner to put it in overhead compartment'
A ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy has died after a United Airlines flight attendant allegedly told the dog's owner to put it in the overhead compartment.
The owner boarded United Flight 1284, from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport to New York's LaGuardia, on Monday, with her puppy in its carrier.
But fellow passenger, June Lara, who sat behind the owner on the flight, told Chron.com that a member of the flight crew said the animal should go in the overhead bins.

The family is just as much at fault as the airlines. That’s not an approved pet carrier, that’s a small zipper top gym bag not appropriate for carrying animals. The dog suffocated.........
Says you. I say different.
It is also another “let the flyer with pets beware” story. Good to know in advance what stupidity an airline may subject you to.
Also “brachy” dogs-bulldogs,boxers-have breathing problems.
That makes too much sense. I took my Dad’s dog to Florida. It flew in the cargo area and was fine.
Now everyone wants to bring their pets on the passenger area of the plane and inflect us with them.
I agree. I remember back when I took my Dad’s dog to Florida, they had all kind of rules about what kind of carrier, etc. Had to have some food in a ziplock bag in case of delay, so the dog could be fed.
The container had to be a hard shell on an approved list. Of course, this was 25 years ago before everyone claimed their pet was a spirit animal and had to be let in the cabin with the passengers.
You can clearly see from the photo of the dead dog, it is a very small case for the size of the dog, and they just crammed it in the overhead and it died. You can’t tell me the dog didn’t make any noise as it died from the lack of air.
Seriously, they didn’t bother to even check on the dog for the whole three hours!! And yes, I blame them and not United for this one!
My poms have trachea problems where they tend to collapse.
what a hazard...airlines better wise up number one and stop letting people carry large items with them on the plane...
are there no rights for people who have allergies to dogs or cats?....
its a ridiculous incident and sad for the dog....but I see blame all around...
