This guy who gave me assigned tapes was just a little curly haired Jewish MARRIED short nebbish. Who thought he was Very important.
I dont think I did Ozzy or Dylan. There were some I had trouble understanding. Definitely. So I would write [unintelligible] which they wanted to know so they didnt put that part on the air. There were some people I didnt know of, then later realized how famous they were. I think at the time my personal favorite, someone I saw a lot in concert, was Bowie. I honestly dont remember them all. The saddest one was James Brown. He came off really really dumb and he thought he was a god, he was apparent;y told from morning til night he was the greatest singer in the world ever. It wasnt egotistical so much as sad. I cant explain it but he just didnt have the best grip on his place in the universe.
In James Brown’s later years he returned home to South Carolina, where he was rather infamous for attempting to evade police in his Cadillac, once continuing on after hitting spike strips, running on the rims LA style with sparks flying after the tires disintegrated. When the car finally gave up the ghost and police had it surrounded, James Brown emerged and broke into the Goodfoot dance prior to being arrested, there’s video out there somewhere if I’m not mistaken. He was nonetheless a beloved figure there, and was pardoned by the governor for all his past crimes in that state in 2003.
:)
The saddest one was James Brown.
I remember when he was arrested for what was it, shooting up his wife's beauty salon, followed by the police chase. His attitude to the police was "Why ya'll picking on me??"
