When I was a kid, we had this big glass boot, that was made for drinking beer out of, it had something to do with the German restaurant my parents had.
A few years ago on The Amazing Race, they were in Germany and one of the tasks was to go to this bar/club and they had to drink this HUGE glass boot of beer. It was huge. Must be a German thing.
