The “Academy” loast any remaining credibility when they ignore “The Passion”.
That was the single best movie ever made from every technical standpoint.
I am not talking about whether you like it for entertainment or not- I am talking about the film-work. It was extremely well written, beautifully photographed, technically perfect in every way.
I am only talking about the production values. I think The Godfather was similarly well made. And a few others.
But when they seemed to purposely ignore their reasons for being- because they hated the subject matter- they lost whatever little credibility that they had left.
I know exactly what you mean...I think I never watched again after they gave “Shakespeare in Love” the Best Picture over “Saving Private Ryan”.
As another poster on this thread accurately pointed out, it now seems to be how many virtue signaling check boxes a movie can cover that determines “Best Picture”.
