What killed the sport was elimination of creative competition and making your car faster than the other guys...
They used to have a series called IROC. International race of champions. They prepared equal cars, Made them mechanically as equal as possible then had one driver test them all and make them feel the same on the track. Then brought together drivers from other series and had them race it out... It was alright to watch but series was a failure really... what killed that was having a nascar driver get hurt on Saturday and not race Sunday and sponsors got mad. They killed off that series and turned cup racing into that same failure with all their rules... then to fix it they kept changing things and it is garbage... i dont even know 80% of the names on the track now.
.
By the time IROC came along, NASCAR was already on life support.
The idea of open competition is a very American idea, and very un-american propagandists in the MSM and Public Screwels have worked to destroy it.
