No kidding with regards to your opening remark.
I too am considering another purchase due to the latest gun grabbing efforts, only in the self defense arena. I currently have a Ruger LCP II in 380. It’s a great little gun that can be concealed so easy.
But a 380 does not pack much of a punch. I’ve designed my own shoulder type holster that fits over the T-Shirt, under a loose fitting shirt. The Ruger is not at all noticeable. I have room in this holster/harness I made for a second weapon under my other arm/shoulder where I would wind up carrying two. IMO, it’s easier to pull out a second weapon than it would be to change magazines in one.
I’m currently considering Springfield’s 45 cal XD compact. It’s very narrow and reasonably light weight.
I have a Springfield XD in .40. Love that thing.
My EDC is a Springfield XDS in 45 ACP. Love that little gun!
Im currently considering Springfields 45 cal XD compact.
I have one of those, too. But for EDC I decided on the XDS in .45. On my body its very concealable.

I understand your point, but would suggest that two identical pistols would be a lot better. If you ever need even one in a high-stress situation you would be far better served with something very familiar. And, switching from one to another in the middle of an incident is adding an unnecessary complexity.
