Space itself can travel at faster than light speed.

Space is the absence of matter. It is non-material.

Non-material things can exceed the speed of light because they have no mass. E=MCsquared where M=0 , means the E( Energy required to get to speed of light or faster) =0.

Assuming that is true, then we will never, ever find out how big the allegedly expanding universe is because it is expanding faster than the speed of light.

Unless it's infinite and then one must ponder, where is space going to ?

Space is not non-material. If it were, the magnetic & electric permittivity constants would be zero and it is not. The speed of light is related to the vacuum permittivity: C = 1/sqrt(εµ) Therefore E=M/εµ The fabric of space itself has a vacuum energy which is non-zero, see Casimir effect.
