These Chinese military innovations threaten U.S. superiority, experts say

BEIJING — The Chinese New Year began with the traditional lighting of firecrackers on Friday, but the country's military has been working on incendiaries on an entirely different scale.

Over the past year, the nation that invented gunpowder has been rolling out an array of high-tech weapons that some experts say could threaten the global superiority of the United States.

"The U.S. no longer possesses clear military-technical dominance, and China is rapidly emerging as a would-be superpower in science and technology," said Elsa B. Kania, an adjunct fellow at the Center for a New American Security, a Washington think tank.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army "might even cut ahead of the U.S. in new frontiers of military power," she added.

Despite the recent sharp rhetoric from President Donald Trump, analysts say an open conflict between Beijing and Washing is unlikely. Others dismiss the idea that China might soon outpace the U.S. in military power.

"There is serious self-congratulation and boastfulness about China’s real military ability," according to Wu Ge, a military analyst and columnist for China's liberal-leaning Southern Weekly newspaper.

Still, it is clear that significant milestones have been reached by a country that, alongside Russia, is categorized in Trump's national security strategy as a "revisionist power" — a nation seeking to redefine the world along values contrary to America's.

Here are five of China's most eye-grabbing innovations:

Ther isn’t one country on this planet that can project sustained offensive power against the US. Yet the US can project that power anywhere they choose. No one has the supply chain we have as well as the air and sea power.

Our supply chain, is getting more and more Chinese.

China’s supply chain, is gradually replacing it. China’s supply chain however, is not getting more and more American.

Do not think they can’t. They have a big country, FULL of people, it runs well, and is growing much faster than our own country.

They are becoming a real challenger.

Comcast and GE formed the joint venture holding company NBCUniversal, LLC. NBC Universal, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of the holding company and was renamed as NBCUniversal Media, LLC. Later that year, these two companies merged to become NBCUniversal, Inc.

The Chinese are using their massive trade advantage to rapidly build up their armed forces. They are buildingup and modernizing their aircraft carrier fleet, upgrading their nuclear strike capabilities (incuding their ballistic missile subs), seizing islands in other countries’ territorial waters, and building bases in Africa and elsewhere in the world.

Who do think their newly built capabilities are aimed at?

Go ahead and buy more chinese crap..

Never underestimate the enemy.

I do share your sentiments, but I’m not willing to dismiss those guys.

Clintons gave away so many secrets that they got a real big boost and caught up quite a bit.

I avoid anything chinese made. It’s not always real easy, but I don’t spend a dime that the commies get that I’m aware of.

Let them do as you suggested and good luck to them.

North America has everything we need. We can do it without anyone else.

It would be painful for a bit though.

The idea that China threatens our military superiority anytime in the foreseeable future is ludicrous.

I'd say their island building spree in the S. China Sea is aimed to challenge that superiority.

No need to develop air craft carriers when you have built artificial islands in strategic locations, complete with landing strips, projecting regional power and controlling critical sea lanes.

Color me skeptical. The Chinese are simply not a very creative culture. They are far, far, far more likely to take someone else’s ideas as their own than they are to create their own innovations. Innovation is a rarity there.

Totally agree.

And the short term pain would be well worth it.

Fortress America, disentangled.

Where do you live, that information is so hard to get?

All you have to is read a bit more and you’ll find that I haven’t described a tenth part of the dangers our country faces.

You are from the US, right?

Well, you’d have the guys to the north too, I just don’t think some liberals would make it heh.

The bandaid has to come off sometime. Rip it off quick.

For 30 years, they have been absorbing the very best American educations.

There are five times, as many Chinese, as Americans.

Do not think for one moment, they are any less capable of things than we are.

They have done some amazing things in their history. They built the Great Wall, how long ago?

We still don’t have one, on our border.

Re-read your history: China fought the Japanese a lot longer that we did in WWII.

Then fought a bloody civil warand then fought us in Korea. Then supplied materiel and advisors to the NVA in Vietnam.

They haven’t stayed out of anything
