John Perry Barlow was an eclectic character who led an eclectic life. He began life in a devout Mormon family in Wyoming, found himself writing lyrics for the cult favorite Greatful Dead rock band in his adulthood, and ended life as an outspoken co-founder and contributor to his Cyberspace freedom organization, the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Barlow's health suffered, considerably, in his later life. He faced several "debilitating health conditions" prior to and following a nearly fatal heart attack in May of 2015. His poor health was no secret: In October of 2016, a "Wellness fund" was established in his name and a concert was held to benefit this fund, both to raise money to pay his outstanding medical bills.
Barlow's was not exactly a household name. It's probably fair to say that very few Freepers had ever heard of him when the controversial, online character "Q" mentioned it in one of his perplexing "drops" on the 8chan Internet forum on January 27th, 2018:

As this drop was made on January 27th, it was quite a bombshell to Q's online following when Barlow passed away on February 7th, 2018; eleven days later. His followers were even more convinced of Q's authenticity as a close insider, or group of insiders of the Trump administration. (Some even theorize that Trump, himself, contributes to the Q drops.)
Barlow's official cause of death has not been released as of this writing, but he is believed to have died of another heart attack.
While the February 7th mention of Barlow's name was Q's first, it was not his last. Q subsequently mentioned Barlow's name on February 11th and the 14th, seemingly to remind his followers of his direct hit.
Q's seeming foreknowledge of John Perry Barlow's death brings with it a few possibilities. If Q knew that Barlow was about to die then he knew that either the Trump administration or the "Deep State" had targeted Barlow for assassination. If Barlow died of natural causes, then Q, knowing his health status, merely guessed correctly that Barlow was near a natural death, yet passed it off in subsequent drops as proof of his "insider" status.
If Barlow was assassinated, as stated above, Q either knew that his side (the Trump administration) was about to have Barlow assassinated or that someone else (the Deep State?) was about to have Barlow assassinated.
If the Trump team had Barlow assassinated, then they should be called on it and people should go to prison. Why would we want to trade one Deep State for another.
If the Trump team knew ahead of time that the Deep State was planning to assassinate Barlow, yet did nothing about it and let it happen, or at the very least, call the Deep State on it and prosecute. Someone from the Deep State should be heading to prison.
This writer is unaware of any reason why either the Trump administration or the Deep State would want John Perry Barlow assassinated. So, the question is asked: Who Killed John Perry Barlow?

There was no foreknowledge of his death demonstrated. It was only a name. The meaning of posting the name is attributed after the fact, as usual. Meanwhile ignoring all the other things that Q posted that make no sense.
His Instagram had many photos of him looking very infirm.

The sequence here was that on 1/27/17 “Q” revealed that SecureDrop was not so secure, that the ‘company’ had a hook built in so that unsuspecting whistleblowers were unwittingly submitting their drops to the ‘company’ as well. Consider all the sites + media + companies + agencies, etc. that used it ... Think Corp. USA, IG’s, et. Etc. All those “secret’ disclosures, dumps galore, used for Intel + enforcement, black ops and blackmail. This revelation led to an tissue being generated by SecureSoft just eight days ago, and, then, the next day, Barlow died. Both Assange and “ Q”, in near unison, have been calling Snowden out so he’ll go to tell his story to the tribunal at Gitmo.

I did use the parenthetic term "lucked out" in my original post, which also was not the best phrasing, but I couldn't come up with something more apt.
I am inclined to believe you. In dealing with the extra ordinary it is best to begin strongly against and let evidence show itself to make the extraordinary believable. LARP ., probably some military background, maybe NSA , but too many dark money Rothschild type references for him to be a largely practical, functioning member of high gov’t with clearance. The 2 things are opposed
Is there any proof of his death?
I have been trying to find out why his website is down. Toad.com was the original cypherpunks address and JPB’s in recent years. It was about the 4th website ever registered, originally by Timothy May in August 1987. Surely Barlow would have ensured its continued existence if he knew he was dying . . .

No. This was a message to Snowden, who was a VERY good friend of Barlow (his mentor).
He called Snowden "Mr.Contractor" because he was CIA "contracted" to NSA, who subsequently dropped dime on the NSA's programs in order to take down the NSA at the behest of the CIA (Brennan).
I thought everybody knew this.
