The odds of anyone surviving a jump from 10,000+ feet in pitch black over a heavy forest at the cruising speed of a 727 is very slim. Even if he did manage to land without injury there is still the problem of navigating the NW woods to a rendezvous point. Even if we assume the plane was flying the exact course he instructed and he jumped at the exact time he planned he could easily be 20-30 miles off course and with no GPS a compass is not going to do a whole lot.
