I'd say Spielberg has run out of good ideas.

What was the last movie he thought up himself?

Close Encounters, maybe?

He has scouts to bring him properties, books and such, that look like promising films.

This one, though, is something he's been wanting to remake for some time.

I guess his team were too scared to try to talk him out of it.
