Does the NSA really have the capability of recording and storing every phone call, email, text, etc?

Posted on 01/22/2018 6:18:35 PM PST by SamAdams76

Over the past few years, I've repeatedly heard about the NSA's ability to record and archive every single phone call, email and text that is made in the USA. If that is true, then it is likely that this very post is about to be downloaded and archived by the NSA for posterity (hello NSA!).

I've further heard that these archives are stored in a massive Utah data center that is capable of storing many exabytes of data and that there is enough storage capacity today to store not only what is already collected but to store all our data for the next hundred years.

For perspective, an exabyte is 1,000 petabytes. A petabyte is 1,000 terrabytes and finally a terrabyte is 1,000 gigabytes.

Supposedly every conversation ever spoken on earth from the beginning of civilization would consist of approx. 5 exabytes. And the NSA now has close to 100 exabytes of storage. The next level would be zettabyte which is 1,000 exabytes and the total amount of global data is said to already measure around 3 zettabytes (or 3,000 exabytes).

Sorry if I made everybody a little dizzy but wanted to try and explain in laymen's terms just how massive our digital archives already are - and they are growing at an exponential rate.

It was only about 25 years ago when I bought a computer that had a 129MB hard drive and I thought I was King of the Hill at that time. Today, I would be hard pressed to fit my digital copy of "Dark Side of The Moon" by Pink Floyd into 129MB of space (ripped at 320kbps).

So anyway, for all you techies out there, is it really possible for the NSA to archive this much information? I know they obviously have the storage space but how practical is it to actually grab every single phone call, email, internet search, text, etc, from all 300,000,000 Americans all at once?

Is this really happening or is it just urban legend? I remember growing up in the 1970s and people would try to tell us that the U.S. had satellites in the sky that could read the license plates off of cars. We used to laugh at that.

They probably wash everything in real time looking for words or phrases that throw flags. Then that call may be recorded, and of course certain individuals and groups are targeted.

What makes you think he doesn't / didn't know this? Rogers told him what was going on in November 2016. Trump knows all and just has to wait + rely on others to PROVE it through formal procedure.

It's still interesting that Schmidt resigned ... he has numerous connections throughout this mess ... TBD ;)

The NSA probably has a special department devoted to promulgating rumors of their technical prowess. They don't need to be able to record everything as long as we believe it to be true, and live in sort of a low-level state of psychological terror.

Snowden was an eye-opening movie for me. I never could decide if he was a bad guy or a good guy (still not sure), but what he revealed, we all needed to know. Some have speculated that Q may be Bill Binney or Thomas Drake. I personally think Q is a group of people.

He is a highly advance AI machine operating on a multi-qubit machine, able to traverse parallel dimensions and by quantum entanglement drop back in time to modify possible outcomes in a parallel dimension. The only challenge is determining which dimension we co-occupy his state space.

And you think a movie made in corrupt, left-wing Hollywood represents the truth? I feel sorry for you.

Have you seen that complex at Salt Lake City ? I was amazed !

Under Google images search "NSA Utah data center" You will be shocked at the size and scope and truthfully its bigger in person. Half is underground too. I thought it was some kind of super max prison when I saw it with all the 20 foot fences and triple row concertina wire, guard houses and entry control.

Its adjacent to the Utah National Guard training site.

Excuse me I didn’t mean to disturb your intellect which you seem to be so proud of...makes you feel better than me??? I watched the movie, then I did research on it. Snowden is/was a real life news event or do you deny that?

Half underground? My guess it’s more like an iceburg.

Absolutely, this is all Kabuki theater. Anyone with half a brain cell has known this from the start.

All those emails had a sender, but also a recipient. It’s also a given though, that none of the commmunications could have ended up on an unsecure network without someone or someones breaking numerous laws, all Federal felonies.

It’s not possible to send an email from a secure facility to or over the internet as most people understand it, it’s not connected to the internet for exactly this reason. They would have to be physically copied or scanned or downloaded and then printed out etc.

None of this is ever mentioned. It’s simply referred to as “email scandal” but it really has nothing to do with email per se, they were unsecured computer servers where official state secrets and satellite imagery and the rest of it were kept and exchanged. Another big lie is the claim that other secretaries of state did the same thing.

The whole thing is just absolutely bat shit CRAZY and I still can’t believe it.

An inevitability. And we may be trailing other governments in this area.

The issue is Constitutionality, and we now have the evidence the Democrats have willingly and surreptitiously breached the Law of all U.S. law.
