I suspect you are correct. If they had told me, I would have given them the drives. No mess, no fuss. I'm surprised they never talked to me about it. If they classified it quietly... understandable. My father had an interesting role before he retired and my uncle was high level FBI, so I was already under some checks.

I was pretty damn impressed with them for finding the files, removing them while leaving the file name in the directory table and so forth. Professionals.
