AA is not a self-help program.
In case management-workers comp especially—the person/entity that pays gets to decide what addiction/abuse treatment they will write a check for, they let the case manager know and we see that it is implemented that way. Any group or program that does not utilize professionals is classified as a “self help” program-doesn’t matter if it is AA, NA, the program in the article or any of the other such programs/groups. That is just the way it is when a provider is paying for rehab-they demand professional monitoring and therapy, as well as provable results. If you are paying yourself, then do whatever works for you, of course...
If someone trades one addiction/obsession for another, that is a switch-not a cure. And I didn’t say that you did that-I have no idea what you did-only what I’ve observed in my professional and personal life. I made it clear that one size does not fit all-also-if you learned at AA or some other place a way to get my cousin to stop with the sugary, high fructose loaded soda that is his new addiction, please let me know-my whole family will thank you-we are afraid he will ruin all his organs with that stuff...
