Foster is just whining here. With the advent of Internet offerings like Netflix and Amazon, there has never been a better time to create movies based on original screenplays and stories. The superhero movies are in many ways an insurance policy for big studios who are losing shit loads of money on many projects to upstarts like Amazon, Hulu, HBO, etc. The consumption of entertainment is changing impacting the movie going public that is very democratic and liberating giving more choice to consumers how they want to spend their entertainment dollars. BTW Jodie, weren’t you involved with Elysium?
I like a good action movie as much as anyone. The operative word is “good”. The writing in movies is terrible. While one can blame Hollywood remember that they have to cater to a public with terrible vocabularies that couldn’t sit and read a book. A public with short attention spans.
Jodie Foster is and always has been an attractive woman - close to my age and someone I had a crush on until I realized she had no interest in my 50% of the population. It's a shame she's an absolute moron when it comes to politics and life in general.
Once again the old adage, “the less you say the more intelligent you seem” is proven. Jodi opened her mouth and her IQ just dropped 60 points.
Broadway has the same problem. No one will go to an original musical anymore (maybe Hamilton will change this) so they keep cranking out musicals based on movies that already have soundtracks to work from, hoping something will stick, or bringing back the classics for one more run.
Movies are doing the same -- films with built-in audiences and retreads, reboots, rehashed versions of things we can rent on demand, if we wanted.
They are ruining comic books too. These plots are far more contrived, simplified, and the character development one-dimensional.

What she is really decrying, as most Liberals do, is that WE are too stupid to want what SHE wants us to want... what SHE thinks is best, and what is best for us... so she will rant and rave until "change" is made that suits her preferences, and overrides our voting dollars.
(But yes, I would start seeing movies in the theaters once again if they started making intelligent and interesting stories that didn't spoon-feed the viewer, or simply try to "win" with the most and the largest explosions. And yes, I know that I am in the minority, and this does not bother me at all. I certainly will not demand that others bend to my will so as to get my voting dollars. I'll just keep waiting.)
