Superheroes may have met their greatest adversary Jodie Foster.
The 55-year-old has claimed Comic book movies are ruining cinema.
In an interview with Radio Times Magazine, the actor and director slammed the likes of Marvel and DC production as the cinematic equivalent of fracking.
'Going to the movies has become like a theme park,' she said.
'Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth.'
She continued: 'Its ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world.
The two-time Oscar winner, who directed the likes of Nell, The Beaver, The Brave One and Money Monster, insisted she didn't want to make '$200m movies about superheroes.'
However, she would consider a superhero protagonist if they had 'really complex psychology'.

She directs one every night. Move it a little to the left.
She’s probably just jealous that they didn’t ask her to portray a lesbian superhero in any of the films.
Who cares what this bull dyke says
“She is an artist with integrity.”
ROFL! The words ‘artist’ and ‘integrity’, especially of Jodie Foster or any actor, don’t belong in the same sentence together.
I’d rather have superhero movies than lecture-y movies starring Matt Damon, Leonardo de Caprio, etc.
You make a valid point.
My apologies.
Exhibit "A"
spoken like a good elitist
Are they basing it off of the Edmund Morris biographies?
‘Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth.’
Huh? Marvel is wrecking the Earth?
Can you fathom the mush brained snowflake that would subordinate their intellect to that of jodie foster?
Make a movie that doesn’t present the middle aged white man appear like a buffoon, predator, or pretty much responsible for every ill in the history of man...and we can talk.
I know she’s on the left, but she’s smart, and right, IMO, on this. I like to go to intelligent movies that’s why I saw the Churchill flick twice over Christmas because it was so darn refreshing to see something good being made. And I’m very excited to see the Entebbe movie that will be coming out in March. It’s also why I haven’t seen many films since 1993. Hollywood is crap, IMO. It’s so formulaic, cliched, trite, and overdone. I wish I had the talent and money to make movies. There are some I would like to see made.
Jodie Foster is a good actress, IMO. She usually played tough, decent women characters. However, as with a lot of these people, she goes shooting her mouth off, seemingly against everything that makes our country great (masculine men, fracking, etc.).
Celebrities . . . what DON’T they know??? *grin*
I’d forgotten about her/him/it. Sounds like she’s need to get her name back out there.
Did she have to speak her lines really slowly, so that Matt Dumbon could comprehend what she said? Can Matt even read and write?
The Darkest Hour was about a middle-aged white man who wasn’t a buffoon.
Most cinema “art” was pretty much in the crapper before the spate of so-called superhero flicks were made. It’s not necessarily art, it is relatively low-level entertainment, much of it low comedy, or badly told horror shows, nearly pornographic, and with an unusual amount of gratuitous violence which is actually pretty pointless as it applies to carrying the narrative, such as it may be. Or the gratuitous violence is just another form of pornography.
Jody Foster has been on the wrong side of a good many of these gratuitous violence scenes.
