It is... good for Harry Reid and his little-green-men-obsessed billionaire pal for keeping the flame of weird curiosity alive.
But I also doubt that such research will ever prove that the strange lights and vessels filmed by human pilots actually belong to a starfaring species thats come to our planet to study, experiment and eventually offer us a hand up or else ruthlessly invade....
Other sapient species may indeed be out there, but the most parsimonious explanation for all the U.F.O. encounters since Roswell is not that our nuclear testing or space program finally inspired the galaxy to come see what humanity is all about.
This was the argument of Jacques Vallée, a French-born scientist and a wonderful character in the annals of ufology, who wrote a wild book in the heady year of 1969 called Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers, which The Timess U.F.O.-spending scoop gave me an excuse to read.
Vallées conclusion is basically the reverse of Erich von Dänikens thesis in Chariots of the Gods, published to better sales the prior year. Where von Däniken argued that old myths and biblical tales alike contain evidence of ancient alien visitations ...Vallée suggested that contemporary U.F.O. narratives are of piece with stories about Northern European fairies and their worldwide kith and kin and that its more reasonable to think that were reading our space age preoccupations into a persistent phenomenon that might be much weirder than a simple visitation from the stars.

Everybody knows that these are future versions of ourselves, coming back to tweak the timeline. That’s why they’re always humanoid in appearance, and so squirrely about revealing themselves. Duh.
Man is curious about all things. Perhaps they also are.
I thought not.
That’s the only thing that makes partial sense. But there’s a contradiction with this. Assuming they exist, they clearly don’t want to interact with us or announce themselves. Like a Star Trek Prime Directive. But why are they supposedly seen all the time, sometime by large crowds? If the UFO I saw was one, why did I see it at all? On the other hand, if they don’t care if we see them, why don’t they just land at Walmart or something? Again, it makes no sense.
Right ON!
They’re there, whatever they are, and have been for a very long time, appearing in medieval art and on back, even cave art. Logic to me says whatever it is, is part of this world. I happen to believe that they’re not what we’re being primed to accept, and will suggest strongly that incredulity is in order, particularly when you want to believe what you’re being told. I’ll just leave it at that rather abstract level because I don’t care to debate the matter.
Go ask PAUL. It can happen. lol
I have spent a lot of time outdoors over the years and have seen a lot of odd things. I am not convinced I have seen spaceships from other planets; the fact is I have no idea what I have seen. Anyone that has spent a lot of time outdoors has seen many things that are hard to explain.
Ever thought that we may be the original planet Australia, where the interplanetary dumped their human trash so they could never harm civilization again?... and if the “earthlings” could develop the technology to escape the planet without destroying their selves first, they might let us????
I buried Paul.
You are right about the presence of UFOs in Art; I took a really interesting art class years ago. The professor had been all over the world and had taken tons of slides of all sorts of art, it was amazing to me how many showed something- very much resembling UFOs as if they were commonplace and obvious. The thing that struck me was that I had never seen that before. The art is out there, yet no one talks about it, most books do not show it. As if it doesn’t exist because it can’t really be explained. The professor of that course did not attempt to explain it; he did show many slides in class as just part of what is out there- he was in no way emphasizing that type of art. He said some explained it by saying they were depictions of the sun by primitive artists. Saying it was done as a child would draw the sun as if it is just right there. The problem with that is if you see the art work there are few that might even possibly be explained that way. There were several slides of art that showed multiple mysterious objects in the sky.
I am not a believer in flying saucers by any means but there are a lot of things that make you scratch your head for sure.
The best UFO pix I’ve ever seen were some Polaroids I took of a trash can lid that I’d flung into the air when I was 11 years old.
You have to come in at the right angle.
I saw those. The green one is gluten-free.
“It’s a cookbook!”
Not sure why everyone is convinced these are interstellar travelers. There are many more plausible possibilities such as simply being a small group of humans with advanced tech. They could be fabled Atlantians. Could be a different race or sub-species. Seems if they have the technology to completely evade our most advanced fighters and come on and off radar at will, they could hide a base somewhere on this big planet. I know it sounds totally far fetched, but as crazy as that sounds it is much much much more likely than interstellar travel.
Harry Reid’s pal was a billionaire.
Harry kicked $22,000,000 into this over 5 years allegedly benefiting his pal.
Why doesn’t the NYet Times report this as corruption and fraud?
The billionaire could have spent some of his own damn wealth chasing ghosts, shadows, and snipes rather than profiting off the American taxpayer and corrupt Democrat leadership.
