I asked for a toy stove. There was no Easy Bake then, I guess, so I got a cream-colored metal stove with red line decorations like you see on some cars. Would be supporting the whole family today if it hadn’t been thrown out finally. I don’t know where they got it, but they always gave us what we asked for.

My favorite was always the huge box of crayons. And one year one of those little square plastic puzzles where you had to get the numbers in sequential order.

One of my favorites was around 1970/71. I believe it was just called Lunar Lander. A balloon with Lunar Lander looking cage attached to the bottom. You had a joy stick that controlled a fan. Basically you would control the fan to lift the balloon move it a few feet and land it on a table or what not. Even the adults liked playing with it.

Now that would blow people away.

There wasn’t any color in the world then either so color cameras didn’t work.

I think that kit came with a little alpha particle source. Can you imagine carrying that through an airport now?

Yes, it came with 4 Uranium ore samples which are weak alpha sources.

Walking through an airport or anywhere else with Uranium (maybe not a nuclear power plant) should not be a problem. Alpha particles can only be detected with specialized detectors and only at very close distances (an inch or two)

Uranium ore though also usually has small quantities of other radioactive isotopes (radium) that are gamma emitters that would set off radiation monitors.

I have one of those Hopalong Cassidy radios. Paid a LOT more than they cost new!

It's interesting that there were two versions of the foil graphic on the front. The other one had the horse rearing, with both front legs off the ground. The actor who played Cassidy on TV, William Boyd, felt that the rearing version represented animal cruelty, and he insisted on the version seen in your picture.

There is nothing new about PC, but at least back then, it was still OK for a TV cowboy to carry a gun!

I’m still looking - but that “Skyline” building set looks pretty close to what I used to play with. I spent hours and days with that. All of the various flat panels, windows, etc.

I used to build skyscrapers with that set, and then destroy them with "earthquakes". I never flew planes into them, however, that just never occurred to me.

I had all those things except the Shootin’ Shell pistol, and the dolls. Also had one of the first Frisbees, then called the “Pluto Platter”. The Frisbee met an untimely demise due to one of my “experiments” with fire.
