Bethany Lynn Stephens had been gone for about a day since she left to walk her dogs. So her father went out to look for her at the area she frequented.
There, authorities say, he found her two dogs, guarding what he first thought was an animal carcass.
Much to his horror, discovered that it was not, Goochland County Sheriff Jim Agnew told reporters at a news conference Friday.
Investigators in Goochland, Va., a rural community about 30 miles outside of Richmond, say the petite, 5-foot-1 young woman, who weighed a little more than 100 pounds, was mauled to death by her dogs, which had a combined weight of about twice hers, while out on a walk earlier this week. Her father found her Thursday evening in a wooded area that used to be a farm, about a half a mile from the main road...
The dogs clearly, at least in our estimation in a dark night, had something to do with this. It was an absolutely grisly mauling, Agnew told reporters. In my 40 years of law enforcement, Ive never seen anything quite like it. Hope Id never see anything like it again.
Officials from the countys animal control department and sheriffs office spent at least an hour trying to tranquilize the animals, Agnew said. Investigators also found bloody articles of clothing scattered in the area.

It might, if they were, but they weren’t.
No one cares to find out what really killed her for *sure*?
If it was the dogs, so be it, kill them but what if it was not?
A friend of my wife’s came to visit. Her boyfriend brought two poorly trained or untrained Rottweilers. They seemed nice, not vicious, but they are extremely large dogs. At the time my youngest girl was about 10 years old. I excused myself, got my .357 snob nose out of the gun safe, put it in my pocket, and rejoined them. Better safe than sorry around large dogs.
not for pitbulls....and no, I'm not chet99
I think an even faster way is the examination of the dogs. If they were drenched in her blood, had her tissue in their mouths, and maybe even in their fecal matter that would pretty convincing to me. But I fully expect they would have their paws covered with blood even if they had been fighting some other animal and been walking around on her blood.
I agree there is a possibility there could have been an animal or other large dog, but I fail to see how an examination of the area would fail to reveal that. If not prints in mud or snow, at least blood prints. A lot of blood is shed in injuries like this.
Unless the authorities specifically don’t want to investigate (unlikely) or are too incompetent (very possible) I can’t see how a trained eye could not get a handle on that.
LOL, this whole chet99 thing is weird! It is both a joke an an accusation...
And so many of us know of it...
That clearly isn’t and I guess you know that.
All I know is from what I read in the article at the WaPo, saw in the linked video and embedded pics.
Pit Bulls: “The Dog of Peace”
I would not be shocked if she was attacked initially by a wild animal and once hurt and helpless, maybe the dogs got involved...
Dang chihuahuas.
that video is horrible....
Lots of creepiness on her FB page, right now.
Two guys chiming in, sounding almost gleeful in their sarcasm.
She had hundreds, if not thousands of “ardent male followers”.
What if...?
[and we all know that the MSM is hardly credible anymore]
I’m amazed that the FB page is still up.
.
I personally entertain the possibility there was a setup of some kind. But I think the scene would clearly show that, and...I don’t even hunt or do forensics, but I bet they have people who wouldn’t miss that.
Well Cherry, no one cares, because someone *thinks* the dogs are “pits”.
Whatever happened to her will forever be a mystery.
Because “pit bulls”.
She was gone for nearly two days before anyone looked for her and the dogs were ‘guarding’ her body and had to be sedated and dragged away.
Sounds more like loyal dogs watching over their fallen master although I’m sure some smartass will make a “food source” comment.
May she rest in peace and be with God because no one on earth cares enough to research further.
Jesus Christ. The cat was just sitting there minding its own business in its driveway. That sucked.
And yes...that woman did lose control of her animals.
I am all too familiar with the ‘law’ in that area, thanks to a friend who lives near there and her efforts to save two dogs who were being abused.
[one died and the other still suffers]
“Incompetent” does even begin to cover it.
There was no mention of DNA testing of her body, or forensic examination of the bites, which would reveal what animal had its mouth around her skull or any mention of “blood soaked dogs”, at all.
The law and animal control in that area is a joke.
It’s easier to assume than work.
*If* they did all that and it *was* the dogs, yes, kill them but they could at least put in a half ass effort, first, if for no other reason than to give a voice to her death.
Yeah, and it doen’t take all that much to make a BIG puddle.
I’m just suggesting one way to be sure.
No mention of wounds on the dogs, if their master had been attacked by another animal, I would expect them to have fought it and been slashed or bitten in the fray.
You cannot imagine how slack things are, in that area.
As I mentioned, I watched a year-long saga involving the LEO/animal control near there as it unfolded.
Just pitiful.
I would not move to that area if you paid me to live there for the rest of my life.
Well, I doubt the investigation is over yet. I agree it is better to go with less information and restrict it to what is known...that’s sound practice no matter what.
