We had our home built in 1984. It’s super insulated and passive solar. Had a Lopi woodstove installed in the downstairs walkout family room. We can heat the whole house with it. It is still going strong after all these years. We have replaced the door gasket and flue joint fireproof gasket and some firebricks over the years. We have the one with the twin glass doors. it came with a screen so we can burn open door hearth style but have only used that a couple of times.

We put in a Lopi insert in our first house in Iowa, then a stove in our first Minnesota house.
We built a new house in Prior lake, MN and put in the smallest Lopi stove available. It could heat everything.

This brand really is the best.

Our prairie style house at Lake of the Ozarks was built in 2002. We did all the important energy conserving things we read about in the Minnesota Cold Climate Housing Study from back in the 80s and 90s.
Super insulation, best Andersen windows and doors, ground source heating/AC with thermal floor in the main level.
Because the house faces West, we designed in big overhangs on that side to protect rugs, furniture, etc. An architect we knew from Minneapolis flew down and walked the site and took the sun's location into his house plan.
