Basic logic...a logic that most males,at least, would understand. If a man choose a "calling" that requires him to be without a woman's "companionship" for his entire life that,in and of itself,is profoundly abnormal.
Don't know if you're Catholic but if you are you'll recall that not long ago Catholics were forbidden to eat meat on Friday.Even today that applied during Lent.
But it was just one day a week...a symbolic recognition that there are more important things in God's Creation than meat.So too, married priests could, perhaps,be forbidden to "be with" their wives on Sundays and Holy Days as a symbolic recognition that there are more important things than "snuggling".
But to be without such companionship for their entire lives??????
Not to pick a fight (but really, you started it) There may indeed be “heathen protestants”, if one belongs to a church, but isn’t really a Christian. But a Christian is a Christian, be he Protestant or Catholic. One seldom comes across another, anymore, who maintains that only Catholics are Christians. Thankfully, neither the Catholic Church, nor any of the several Protestant Churches, are God, and He alone knows his sheep.
||I am also glad that the Sacrament of Holy Orders is open to married men -- so we do have married clergy. A lot, in fact. In the US alone, the married men ordained to the diaconate (15,000) outnumber the celibate men in religious orders like the Franciscans, Benedictines, etc. (14,000).
Our parish had 4 married deacons, and their spiritual leadership and service of the faithful with Word and Sacrament is exemplary.
Are you sure of that? I know that there are priests who are converts from the Anglican/Episcopal Church but apart from that I believe that there are no married Roman Catholic priests.
You are misinformed, both as regarding priests and deacons. I think CARA (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate -— Google that) has the most up-to-date statistics.
Actually... According to my mom anybody who isn’t Catholic is a heathen, including me... And there were times when I was referred to as an ‘anti-Christ’er’ as she chased me around with a broomstick. Oddly enough, she never did catch me... But God love her for putting up with my antics.
I made ‘Dennis the Menace’ look like a choirboy.
