Me! I can't remember a single one of these kinds of stories that were not hoaxes. I can recall many, many that were hoaxes though.

I can, but I have to go back to my own time in prep school in 1981. Accomplished young black man, Kevin, accepted to Georgetown, had it happen for real to his dorm room. Kevin was bright, eloquesnt, generally well-liked, and was class president of this mostly white New England prep school. He earned his position.

Here's the punch line: The perps were Persians (Iranians) on campus. The not-so happy ending. The main perp was beat by Kevin and family with a baseball bat just before graduation, and Kevin fled to New Hampshire before turning himself in. I don't know if he ever went to Georgetown.

You know why we can be confident it’s a hoax? Because if a white person was caught doing that, his life would be over. Expelled, prosecuted, permanently unemployable.

Meanwhile, a black person who engages in such a hoax suffers little or no consequences.
