Politics aside, no, really, Baldwin’s Trump impression is REALLY REALLY POOR.

He scowls, he purses his lips. Neither approximates Trump’s look. And he plays Trump as dumb and overtly racist. Trump is neither. It’s a single, offkey note. The Emmy voters are 99.9% anti Trump. Of course they like him calling their enemy President a racist idiot. It’s the only reason he won. Not even the writing was particularly funny.

Contrast that with MacKinnon’s Hillary. She owned her. She played her as the misanthropic power hungry beast she is, recognized as such by both left and right. She deserved that Emmy. She has not had a successful character since, though. She’s too camera muggy in her this season portrayals. Ruins it.

And if you want a spot on, funny Trump impression, look no farther than Darrell Hammond, whose Trump was absolute genius. He did him for years on SNL. He should have been allowed to keep the part. (He also did Bill Clinton perfectly for decades on the show).

Totally agreed that Baldwin’s impression is terrible. It would be one thing if he was good at it. I haven’t seen Hammond’s impression, but he was great as Al Gore. Agreed that Kate does a great Hillary impersonation (I think her Bieber impersonation is excellent too).
