Years ago our kids wanted to camp out in the back yard. It was just a few acres in west central Minnesota (weve since moved), but there were coyotes. About 1:30 in the morning a pack went by our tent. Not only could I hear the howls, but their footfalls seemed to be all around us. No one else woke up, but in a panic I felt around counting to make sure all the kids were there just in case anyone had chosen that time to run to the house to use the bathroom. Creepiest moment of my life.
I am not a fan of coyotes.
I’ve heard many coyotes at night with all their yips, barks and howls, but never heard such eerie sounds as this summer. I was camping in the Ochoco National Forest the night before the eclipse when a band of coyotes started howling in the valley below me sometime in the wee hours. Never heard such unworldly sounds in my life. Creepy, indeed.
