This is the last two chapters of the Bell Curve. I have read them several times over the years and consider them the two most prescient and gently thoughtful chapters on policymaking ever. I am delighted to share them with you. Remember these chapters were written in 1994, almost a quarter of a century ago.

They discuss the two different options afforded to our society, in dealing with intelligence, social connections, and poverty; one being harsh and totalitarian, and the other being inclusive in the best of ways, and highly textured.

I highly recommend reading these chapters. I am delighted to find this website so I can share this with you.

I wonder how many of commenters (and readers) here, are thinking of themselves as the elite class with the high IQs? Likely, many or most of them are of average or below average intelligence.

And, how intelligent is it to go about life “knowing” you have a higher IQ and go around bragging about it. The way some people have put it is that being white is an automatic qualifier for possessing higher IQ or higher intelligence. Yet, like it’s been pointed out, one can be a genius, while his/her offspring turn could turn out to be average or even below average intelligence.

The intelligence that one is lucky to be born with, does not necessarily lead to a successful career or life. How many high IQ people have ever attained the success of professional athletes? How many, or what percent, of high IQ people have ever reached the success of the “elite” business people with their millions or billions? How many or what percentage of the high IQ people have ever attained high leadership positions in government? BTW, does high intelligence lead to corruption, where they think they can get away with anything?

BTW, why does it seem that the subject of high IQ comes up so often on FR?

My job in the US Army over 40 years ago, included studying, understanding, using Aptitude testing.

Before and after that, the services have sought to improve their testing, to avoid built in reasons the tests might not be fair and valid for minority groups.

Try as they will the basic results remain largely unchanged: namely 15 IQ points, time and time again.

This same result has been found in civilian test revisions, adjustments, accommodations etc.
