Intelligence is never any guarantee of wisdom.
Or virtue, for that matter.

so true
To be perfectly frank, Im not a huge fan of Murrays. Just not.
_______________
Any particular reason you care to share.
I found him to be a disarming and fascinating correspondent and with a wide ranging mind. His book about the best of each discipline was a romp IMHO
A person without moral intelligence is not awfully bright to me. Look at somebody like Tony Podesta - rich, successful, corrupt and with truly execrable taste in art. Yet, Murray might consider him loaded with cognitive intelligence.

Cognitive intelligence is essentially how fast does one process and at what level of abstraction.
That is it. One can be an amoral slob but have an IQ in the 180s.
What you call moral intelligence is part of the sphere of my work on Emotional Intelligence which is self knowledge, emotional self management, understanding of others, management of relationships, empathy, passion, morality ethics, and joy.
Increasingly the IQ is the foundation for success in our culture and in many cases supersedes success in other spheres. This has been really emphasized in the tech industry.
As Herrnstein and Murray predicted, Americas elites, who have taken over more control over peoples lives and the economy, have also created systems that actually reduce financial risk to themselves, while increasing it for others

Yes their predictions have become true in a number of ways. Heartbreaking how the textured complex society they recommend has been eradicated by the technology and the tribalism.
That hunger for power is a particular factor of intelligence.
______________
Wrong word, factor, Better stated would be that the hunger for power and its accumulation is a particular kind of intelligence/motivation
Much ugly truth that can not be said is in your post.
______________
Really? I thought the post was one of the most tender and caring social policy statements I have ever read.
It honors that all people are of value and that if we created a textured culture where all work is valued and encouraged many different organizations and clubs, more people would have an importance other than the meritocracy we now inhabit. It would also allow cross pollination of very different peoples.
For centuries, man has striven to overcome the latter in favor of the former. The latter, being more powerful and pervasive, is now being used by the elite to climb further into that bubble of detachment.
____________
Well said.
Yes I have read all his books. I think real Education is interesting, but these two chapters are crystal clear.
We have to end chain migration, be very picky about only letting higher IQ skilled people emigrate here and stop Muslim immigration. Call me what you want but it’s an objective matter of survival of our Sacred Republic long term.

Blah blah blah.
The cognitive elite would have discovered brevity. Big words do not impress.

It is two chapters of a book, not an essay. Big words are manageable by most who use FR. You even dipped into the vocabulary pool using a 5 syllable word in your tagline.
you can go back to one and two syllable words now.
“Better stated would be that the hunger for power and its accumulation is a particular kind of intelligence/motivation”
I’d certainly buy that. And it likely would give some sort of selection advantage. Power has its privileges, after all, and those that seek it tend to be the ones that get it.
But its correlation with what is measured by IQ tests would be well less that 100%, I’d imagine, particularly on the extreme right of the bell curve. And what would be better called “wisdom” is somewhat orthogonal to both these things.

Excellent post
I wonder how many of commenters (and readers) here, are thinking of themselves as the elite class with the high IQs? Likely, many or most of them are of average or below average intelligence.
And, how intelligent is it to go about life “knowing” you have a higher IQ and go around bragging about it. The way some people have put it is that being white is an automatic qualifier for possessing higher IQ or higher intelligence. Yet, like it’s been pointed out, one can be a genius, while his/her offspring turn could turn out to be average or even below average intelligence.
The intelligence that one is lucky to be born with, does not necessarily lead to a successful career or life. How many high IQ people have ever attained the success of professional athletes? How many, or what percent, of high IQ people have ever reached the success of the “elite” business people with their millions or billions? How many or what percentage of the high IQ people have ever attained high leadership positions in government? BTW, does high intelligence lead to corruption, where they think they can get away with anything?
BTW, why does it seem that the subject of high IQ comes up so often on FR?
BTTT
Murry’s next book should deal with gender differences in IQ. That would heat up the conversation to the white hot level.
The same way the subject of women who divorce their men come up on FR. There are just some people here who have bees in their bonnets.
Have you every met a member of MENSA? The bragging! It was Christopher Hitchens who finally took that organization apart. I knew a member of MENSA and he could barely tie his shoes.
