You wouldn’t like it, if people publicly “guessed” the same about you.
[Little correction there.]
On the news, the reporter said that he moved to the area for a job. The job fell through. With no money to pay the rent, he ended up on the street. One day led to another and another and another.
Seems he was just a victim of circumstances. Could happen to anyone of us especially if one is solo.
lol
Baloney, computer systems in use decades ago have recorded
this information immutably for veterans and citizens alike
If only we were so tough on all the illegals and uncitizen scammers like 0bola
And tithing to mosques...
I pass through NY Penn Station several times a week and its obvious
many of the street folks are not just down on their luck but mentally ill and/or abusing drugs or alcohol. Some are lifes dropouts, willfully active scammers taking their show on the road in the subway or up & down 8th Ave with wheelchairs as props.
There are also slovenly everyday salt of the earth working slobs that could learn to use rollon or a toothbrush or to say no to 3rds but to be sure no one in their right mind or with a scrap of pride would sleep on the curb, fish through trash for slobbered-on crusts of food, wear ragged clothes while befouled for days on end, beg or ask for $ when there are in liberal NY there are many organized social services who can provide sustenance a place to sleep/live and a bridge to a job however menial.
and how do you access those computer systems without a military ID, or a DD-214? Unless you do 20 years and retire you turn in your military ID upon ETS.
On the civilian side, you need a certified abstract of birth, (not a hospital birth certificate), ID, proof of address etc to get a replacement drivers license.
I recently renewed my passport. Because it had been too many years I had to start the process completely over despite having the old passport. Certified abstract of birth, old passport, retired military ID copy, drivers license copy.
In most cases, you start with the application for your DD-214. A one-page application providing your service or ss number and dates of service gets you a certified copy of it in about a week, possibly two. While some people have run into problems, most do not.
A couple of years ago I lost my job. I had some savings and cashed out my 401k that I used to live on, pay my rent, my car payment, car insurance, cell phone and utility bills, etc. as I was searching for a new job and I went on many interviews but nothing I think being over 55 hurt my job prospects, and the savings, well that only lasted so long, about a year. Then my unemployment ran out. I wasnt on drugs but I did become very depressed and despondent.
Ive been divorced since 2005 and my husband and I were not able to have children.
If it wasnt for my nephew and his wife taking me in and helping me out, I might have ended up on the streets.
I soon after I moved in with him and his amazing wife and their two kids, I finally got a job and paid off my debts including a final rent payment and an early lease termination fee and my debt to my nephew who made about 2 car and car insurance payments and cell phone bills for me and paid for the U-Haul and a storage unit so I would be able to keep my stuff until I got back on my feet and in September moved into a townhouse that I am renting.
Again, I was about two weeks from being evicted and about a month away from having my car repossessed. If not for my family, I might have ended up in a homeless shelter or worse.
not heartwarming anymore, a SCAM....
