I completely disagree. Conflicts of interest are part of the book of law and the acceptable list of them is a mile long, so these easily qualify. Not to mention Session's DoJ is using unequal standards to analyze criminal behavior when judged in the context of Trump v. Clinton. Only an outside untainted SP could be trusted at this point, and even finding one of those among the D.C. swamp creatures would be difficult, look how Sessions turned out for example.
Yes, and you can bet he was pushed into appointing him.
Trump should call Sessions to the White House and, with witnesses present and a recording device operating, grill Sessions on what his motivations are and why he is clearly not following a path to justice. It should be emphasized to him that he is a member of the Executive branch of government, and that in that role he is an essential component of the founder's design of checks and balances in our government. If he cannot fulfill that role, either due to allegiances to the party establishment or those he served with in the Senate, OR because he is some way compromised, then it is his duty to resign immediately.
Further, along the same lines as Obama’s appointment of ‘czars’, Trump should by executive order create a new position that oversees conflict of interest within the Executive branch.
So now Clinton investigation and he believes the horse crap about Roy Moore.
We are doomed.
Before the SP statute, now expired, DOJ always handled every Federal prosecution, excepting those very rare instances in which a AG/POTUS opted to appoint one.
Sessions in correct on the law. There is absolutely nothing that compels the appointment of a SP, not for the Clinton case and not for the Russia case.
Nothing.
Sessions is an incompetent political hack who will prove out to be one of Trumps biggest judgement failures. As AG, Sessions is clearly in way over his head and needs to be replaced as soon as possible before his inaction causes real harm to the country.
Keeping Sessions in place accomplishes what? With or without him we’re stuck in the same place. . It appears Rosenstein is running the show at the DOJ.
Agree
You're wrong, He has the recommendation of the full House Intelligence Committee (his direct oversight) and the chairman of his Senate Intelligence oversight committee both asking for it, which could easily be considered plenty sufficient.
The only people calling for Mueller's appointment were a few ragtag Dems and they got one setup to investigate Trump, so this request for a Clinton SP has significantly more official weight behind it.
He should have named a special counsel on this back at the start of the year—and there was never cause for the one on Trump/Russia.
Trump could fire him now and I won’t complain.
Rosenstein also should have short shelf life.
Add McCabe to the list.
“He has the recommendation of the full House Intelligence Committee (his direct oversight) “
You are correct, that upon that recommendation he COULD appoint a SP. But it’s entirely up to him and his boss.
No other party in the world gets a vote on the matter.
Sure looks like the ‘RATS got the goods on Sessions.
However, I haven’t given up on Sessions yet.
There’s still too much possibility that he’s in full swamp-drain mode behind the scenes.
