I hosted a political talk radio show at a local radio station in 1993 - 1994 four nights a week. Loved doing it despite also holding down a regular full-time gig and the long days of working both.
One day someone from JJ's "Rainbow PUSH" organization comes in, looks around and declares "There ain't enough black people working here!" In fact there were NO black people working there.
Anyway, Station G.M. comes out of his office and ushers this black "gentleman" into his office. Twenty minutes later, same black "gentleman" exits the Station G.M.'s office holding an envelope, smiling broadly saying "see you again next year!"
Sure enough, about the same time the next year came along, same black "gentleman" comes in, declares there "ain't enough black people working here!" (there still weren't any...) and leaves 20 minutes later with an envelope once again saying "see you again next year!"
JJ is not about working to better conditions for his fellow blacks. JJ is all about enriching himself at the expense of other blacks, whites, big corporations, etc.. Ever read the book "Shakedown?"
Not surprised in the least. But he did have adorable children.
What I will always remember was the crowd that filled the entry area reading the sign that was posted and updated on the cafeteria door explaining where he was during the Selma march and how everyone was doing. Major event in the dorm.
