For an interesting expose read “A Texan Looks at Lyndon” by J. Evetts Haley (from about 55 years ago). Those who knew LBJ best trusted him the least.

I remember my mother in law saying that LBJ had people who were in his way killed....and she was talking about when he was getting going in politics...not after he became VP.

Not the least bit surprised. Those who knew him claim that he frequently used racial epithets. I had the privilege of spending a day with Barry Goldwater in 1986 and spoke with him about his book, “With No Apologies” (a great read if you haven’t read it). Senator Goldwater knew Johnson very well and referred to him as “...the most hateful bastard I’ve ever known.”

I remember my mother reading that book and being repulsed by the way he hunted...putting bait under a tower and then shining the light on the target from the top of the tower.

Now that I think about it, it was rather like Oswald's perch...
