As I recall, just about everybody in the platoon carried a belt (or 2) of M60 rounds. A poncho was laid out by the M60 gun position and some belts were placed upon it and arranged by the M60 team.

Our SOP was every swinging i___ in the platoon carried a hundred round belt. We kept ours, except for the gun teams, in the boxes as we found it was easier to keep clean and easier to toss to the gun team in case anything impromptu happened.

Add everything else and it was an eighty-five pound load...in the Central Highlands.

Those were the days.
