I forgot about Usenet. What happened to it?

It was decentralized and uncontrollable so the powers that be let the spam problem build up, took no effort to evolve its ease of use, and started a media campaign painting it as a repository of illegal material which parts of it were, as an excuse to move on to more controllable platforms. Kind of like how we are slowly moving from decentralized forums to a few centralized websites under the control of bay area liberal tech giants like facebook and twitter.

Good question. Back when I had dial up and used Outlook express for email, I could get on the groups through that.
