So they blame it on the racist and right-wingers and try to tamp down Oswald’s USSR connection, even though he had been a complete wash-out over there with exception of the Russian wife. But in the end, it was the Cuban Commie activities which they tied him to for cementing his guilt: FPCC & DRE with plenty of willing accomplices.
The CIA could have sold Oswald as the ‘assassin’ three ways: Lone Nut Weird Guy, Russian-Commie loving turncoat, or Cuba-loving Castro Commie Puppet. Or a combo of the aforementioned.
However, for the our own CIA to thwart an investigation, is not to be expected. The CIA’s directions were not a memo. Quite the opposite since they wanted no fingers directed at them. There had been no direct paper trail to the Agency for this publication until just recently with the release of more of the JFK files and leads pursued to JMWAVE. And that IS the point of this thread, digging out the truth of their involvement.
The DRE related paper was published & circulated within 12 hours of his death. There’s a copy of one attached to the link provided and the organization was funded by the Agency. And the radio announcements began. It carried a great deal of weight in regards to the public perception and the WCR.
Had this misdirection by the CIA been revealed at the time of the investigations, the WCR would not have been published.
O/T, the Johnson desertion theory is really starting to get that Occam’s whiff to it.
It’s more than just the Russian wife that connects him to the Soviets, though: There’s also the historic diary he had on him, his use of code words and even his contacts.
And as far as your claim regarding the CIA, if they really didn’t want to leave behind a paper trail, then they did a pretty bad job since we already know a few of their operations as it is (think about, if the CIA truly didn’t want a paper trail, how on earth would we know about the Bay of Pigs, or the U2 flights, or Operation Phoenix, or any of the other operations we do know?).
Lastly, I should remind you that the Soviets could have easily spun disinformation to make it out as if America tried to nuke themselves via Cuba and downplay JFK’s victory, not letting a crisis of any sort go to waste as you yourself stated. Yet they didn’t do that, I wonder why... In fact, the closest the Soviets EVER got to a flat out disinformation campaign regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis was when they managed to turn Che Guevara into a leftist patron saint after his Bolivia misadventure, and that was despite the fact that he if anything outright humiliated the Soviets with his nearly causing a full-scale nuclear war and cutting him loose. Considering they managed to really wash their hands with Stalin after news of his bad actions came out with the Secret Speech, it says a lot that they’d practically lionize him of all people despite having even MORE of a PR disaster for Communism with his radicalism than Stalin did. If they really wanted to spew any lies that downplayed the United States, even if they weren’t truly a threat to the USSR, they would have easily done with the Cuban Missile Crisis. No, it’s pretty clear that the Soviets were doing that disinformation thing with JFK for the exact same reason as why they did disinformation during World War II with Katyn: To save their own butts.
