“In the end, Feris’s daughter decided to dress as Elsa — though Feris was concerned it might teach her short-haired brunette daughter that one must be white, blue-eyed and have long flaxen hair to be a “beautiful” princess.”

Wow. What a bigoted woman! She needs to look in a mirror to check her prejudices.

Her conversation with her daughter is quite revealing, in which she suggests that she dress as Che Guevara.

The problem is not that she is ignorant about her prejudice. She has been schooled about being prejudiced to such an extent that she sees any variation from her own narrow life as an example of her prejudices. The reality is her only prejudices are those she has learned from those people who are forcing their own prejudices upon her. She lacks the self esteem to stand up for herself and her child.
