Spam is what I always think of when I read Orwells 1984 and he describes the chunks of meat in the “food” Smith and the rest eat in the cafteria.

Winston Smith would probably have given his eye-teeth for a can of Spam.

The "chunks" in the stew didn't contain any meat at all, as Smith's neighbor, Parsons, points out.
