There is a Spam museum in Austin, Minn. Very interesting and worth the visit. Plus, you can buy every version of Spam that is made.
Spam was a staple of our diet. I remember often having the 'privilege' of opening the can with the attached key, and rolling back the top of the can. The fat had a waxy texture, and was not very desirable when cold. There were often globs of it in the can. However, when the span was warm from frying, or baking, it was quite acceptable to eat. Once a year, or so, we would have a dinner of real steak, usually after my uncle would butcher a cow. Us kids knew this was the meat where "you could eat the fat". We would eagerly look forward to this great event.
