The one I'll always remember was the guy who told me to smile just after I'd left the Chaplain's office. I'd just been notified that my father had died unexpectedly, and I was rather in shock, and this guy told me to smile. I told him about my father and he scampered away, mortified. I do hope that he, at least, never again ordered a complete stranger to smile at him.
God that must have been awful for you!
The “smile” guy probably did not give it a second thought.
Yeah
This and more
The “smile” thing was really irritating! I once was on a crowded elevator at work when some idiot screamed it into my face. There are a lot of dummies out there.
Marilyn Monroe, who knew a thing or two about men, once said that men only like “happy girls.” She was right.
Can’t say I’ve ever told, let alone ordered a woman to smile... ever... let alone in the work place... but I have indeed told quite a few, that they have very beautiful smiles.
Frankly I don’t want women smiling at me, other than of course that just general social smile you make when you make contact.. whether man or woman... acknowledging you see each other.. I’m not personally crazy about that, but it is social norm so I do it as well. If she TRULY wants to smile at me... the forced/fake smile I don’t care for at all... But the honest true smile, that is an honest expression of Joy, I’ll take that look all day long if they want to share it.
I remember back in the 80’s, telling women to smile was a big thing.

It’s still a big thing. It happens everywhere I go. It doesn’t matter if I’m pumping gas or grocery shopping. There is always some complete stranger that walks by and tells me to smile.
