I’m from Wisconsin. Who are these Green Bay Packers that you speak of? I’ve heard of the legends, even seen them. Then they fell into lake Michigan, most likely, to be never seen again.
I live here and would be happy to never see a green and gold anything the rest of my life. I don’t watch football anyway, but the reverence people have for the packers is ridiculous. I imagine I will hear all sorts of whining this week.
The legend lives on from old Green Bay on down
Of the pro League they called ‘gotcha commies’
The League, it is said, never reclaims her dead
When American souls get the gloomies
With backbones of iron twenty-six thousand fans left
And once valued Packers seats stayed empty
That lost team knelt rude and the owners were screwed
As true American souls turned stormy
The team was the pride of the American side
Till they spat on our flag in Wisconsin
As the big sports teams go, it was bigger than most
With a team and quarterback well seasoned
Colluding with thugs and with racists on drugs
When they linked arms with Bears from Chicago
Later that night no one saw how they did
Could the Tree of Liberty need water?
