If you had asked me for a national watchword in my childhood, it would been along the lines of: 'Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more, or close the wall with our English dead', or perhaps 'We shall fight on the beaches', or perhaps: 'England expects that every man will do his duty.".....
But how miserable that the motto we are now being advised to adopt, when under terrorist attack, is the ghastly police advice of 'Run, Hide, Tell!'.
Not only do I feel faintly nauseated by the suggestion that I should run and hide when confronted by evil (I may actually do so, but I will be ashamed of myself if I do) but I think it is bad advice.
At times of great danger, what you need most of all is calm. It makes you more use, and it stops you infecting other people with panic, or of being infected by it.....
Possibly, calm may even give you the resolve needed to hit back. When authority is squawking at you to run away, it is hard to be calm.
Panic leads to stampedes, and quite often to greater danger.....
Don't we still, in fact, admire those who hit or grab or trip up terrorists, rather than fleeing from them?
Won't we be safer if terrorists know that we might stand up to them?.......
If fire breaks out in a building, are we told to run? On the contrary, we are urged to leave in an orderly way.....
what happened last weekend in London when a car roared into crowds outside the Natural History Museum....
People nearby, quite reasonably, reacted as if it might be terrorism. And they didn't run and hide to their great credit.
The driver was seized and held before police arrived.....

Peter Hitchens is truly on target in this article. I can only imagine what his brother Chris would think of Britain normalizing acts of terror.
I feel sorry for the citizens of Britain who voted independence from Europe’s disastrous decision of suicide.
Like an abusive and powerful spouse, they will NEVER let them leave.
Rely on your training.
Smooth draw..........
Smooth press on the trigger............
Always remember “FRONT SIGHT—FRONT SIGHT”.............
.............Oh, you’re stuck in a commie/anti-gun (ANTI SELF DEFENSE) CITY/STATE/WHATEVER......
Never mind.
And for gods sake, pick up your brass, disassemble the gun and toss it away in piece. Then take off all of your clothes and soak them in bleach.
Oh wait, you are talking defensive use. Never mind.
I watch a lot of Forensic Files.
Peter and his brother had their differences over the notion of God and the fighting of the wars after 9/11, but the notion that a people under attack should not defend themselves defies logic, common sense etc. etc.
Thank you, I am well aware of their differences... And while I will always be crucified for my stance on the existence of a god in this forum. I stand with Christopher.
Breaks my heart that people may toss out someone’s opinion simply because of a “belief system” that is over 95% determined on one’s origin of birth.
Peace and Strength in this globalist run world.
Not confronting perpetrators of violence as a first responder, yes, police and firemen are second responders, violent perps are more empowered
Britain is no longer the Britain of the First OR Second World War. The younger generations have grown up in a Socialist country with a nanny Government. They side with the Left. Even our Generation (the baby-boomers) grew up in Socialism there, but they had parents who had the pride of their own parents in ‘keeping calm and carrying on’. With the older generations, who remember a strong and independent Britain, there was pride in self-sufficiency. That is no longer the case in Britain. I weep for what was and now, what will be.
