Actually the lyrics are usually explicit, mentioning sex and your body, etc.
Oh and the hit song that romantically talks about holding your head while you puke.

When this would hit armed forces radio while in the bush or in the rear, everyone would be screaming this song.

Funny this thread came up, and people mention other times like the ‘70s.
I’m thinking of starting up another survey/poll contest on ‘70s hits. I did this here for the ‘80s the other year. Would like to go to my childhood now.
Any interest in participating, let me know!

I’m not sure how your survey / poll works but might be interested in participating.

Basically, I take the official top songs of the decade and we do a play-off type pairing of songs until we reach just 2 left for the winner.
I’ll try to keep you in mind if I get this going. My only concern though is if I start it now, I may end around Christmas; not a good time!
This was my ‘80s ending - an early reply lists threads all the way through the “contest”. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3265766/posts

Well, I probably wouldn’t do well so should opt out of any contest. I was just out of Seminary and wasn’t “deep” in to the rock culture. I just really like it a lot now. Sounds interesting, though.

No no, it’s not a contest for YOU, it’s a contest for the SONGS, to see what FReepers think is the best song of the decade. No pressure on you yourself. ;-)

What’s the name of the song?
To: Yardstick; wardaddy
I think wardaddy was referring to this song:
"Rocket 88"

Unchained Melody--Les Baxter & His Orchestra (1955) From the movie Unchained.
When I was in basic training at Parks AFB in 1955,they let us go to the BX after a few weeks. Some of the guys bought a single record player and the 45 rpm version of that song. They would sit in the dayroom and play that song and cry because they missed their girl friends.
