Saw the original in 82, and several director cuts...usually a give away that the film had problems. Found it lifeless, boring, cold...the only interesting character was Sean Young as Rachael, and she’s only in it for about 15 minutes. It did not bomb because it was ‘too cerebral.’ Watch Harrison Ford’s performance and you can see he wished he was in another film.
Sean Young is back in the re-boot. Cant say more....
Actually he "phoned it in" so bad for the movie, that is what started the entire "is he or isn't he a replicant" discussion. Many years later, Ford admitted he didn't get along with Ridley Scott on the set (though they became good friends years later), that he had contracted to do the movie before his acting profile really began shooting up in Hollywood and was upset that they refused to release him or renegotiate his pay. So he intentionally "sabotaged" the movie with a stiff, emotionless performance.
In addition, Sean Young was the best looking member of the cast.
The production of Blade Runner suffered from numerous delays and snags. Harrison Ford was miserable during shooting because Ridley Scott insisted on working at night with the set usually drizzling and damp, which led to Ford developing a bronchial infection. Notably, a labor agreement kept the set designers on payroll and working even while the start of shooting was delayed. The result was that the set designers added more and more detail to create a dark, compelling, and deeply imagined look that made Blade Runner an enduring influence on the design of science fiction productions. The previous standard of clean and bright set designs for science fiction fell out of favor after Blade Runner.
