Wouldn't you if placed in the same position? I mean, how can anyone have a high opinion of someone who actually spends their own money to purchase a jersey with another person's name on it?

Seriously, what kind of tribal ritual induces the kind of behavior where fans are so desperate for inclusion that merchandise is perceived as an entrance requirement? It's more like a crazy cult - do cult leaders respect their members? Or, do they think they are ridiculous 'tards that should be ripped off and mocked?

Everyone wants to belong to something or feel proud of their hometown. Its an extension of themselves. Sports fans have been with us since at least the Coliseum in Rome. I don't really blame fans for that.

But it is certain that the NFL became very comfortable with their monopoly and government/media position, and saw the "rubes" (fans) as a perpetual money-machine.
