What does it do that, say, an iPhone 6 doesn’t? Just curious

The main reason why I would want one: safety. They will shatter less and be less impacted by getting wet. The other new things like larger screen and faster, etc, are just cool details. I’d like to have a phone that is less risky of damage. But I don’t have $1k saved for a phone.

well, keep your existing phone then
since the new one really doesn’t DO much more

... and if it ever breaks, then deal with getting a new one at that time

i have an older one too and it works so nicely (previous apple did not) that i have no incentive to rush out and buy another one
