I would go to watch the Senators in DC when my dad could afford the $2 for nosebleed seats.
The first year the Nationals brought baseball back to DC they played at RFK and I paid scalpers prices for the home opener. Wanted to take my kids to see the bigs. First base line, three rows back. Wished my dad was still with us.
My middle boy took it all in and said, “Dad, wouldn’t it be cool to sit way up there?”
I remember going to RFK.
I remember lots of the guys. Frank Howard. Ken McMullen. Don Lock. Jim King. Paul Casanova. Mike Epstein. Ed Brinkman. Tim Cullen. Bob Saverine. Ed Stroud. Phil Ortega. Mike McCormick. Pete Richert. Don Blasingame. Darold Knowles. Del Unser. Joe Coleman.
Great memories.
It’s hard to believe looking back as adults, on how exciting some things were, such as going to the ballgame with Dad.
I know how silly this may sound. But when I was young, we had gone only to day games. But then one day, Dad announced we were all going to go to a night game. I remember how exciting I thought that was.
I know as adults, that sounds crazy, but as a boy, I was super excited to go to a night game.
