I gotta tell ya, I grew up in a democrat household where Truman (among others) was worshiped by my whole family, so I did too, but we were always CONSERVATIVES except when when it came to pulling the lever on election day. “Republicans are for the wealthy! Democrats are for the common man!” we all bought into the well forged propaganda of the democrats. The, after I left the service, I had a thought...and that started it all. Thinking is like water poured onto the Wicked Witch of the West, to the democrat party, and doctrine. I started to read (went along with the thinking), and learn, and lo and behold, everything I knew about politics, history, and a whole lot of other stuff was crap! Eisenhower, it turned out, was perhaps the greatest President of the 20th century, once I found out about his actual ACCOMPLISHMENTS! And Harry “the buck stops here”, had feet of clay, he did however, have a very supportive press corps, acting as his PR crew. Even the Republicans regarded him as the “last great democrat.” He did some good things. He integrated the military. He dropped the atomic bombs on Japan ending the war (which he wasn’t gonna do, or at least was reluctant to do, until it was pointed out to him that he would never be elected on his own to the presidency, when, inevitably, it was found out by the public that he had such a powerful weapon, that could have ended the war, and instead launched an invasion of Japan that caused hundreds of thousands of American casualties, maybe more). He affirmed the subordination of the military to civilian control, and other good things. but he was a DEMOCRAT, and could not avoid the endemic corruption of that party.
After WWII the United States of America had the greatest arsenal that the world had ever known. When the Korean WAR (ask any vet of that WAR and he’ll tell you that it wasn’t a “police action”) broke out we had practically NOTHING to fight with. Harry “S”, had sold it all off for scrap at pennies a ton to his democrat cronies. Joe Kennedy bought parts of the fleet at scrap prices, and sold the ships back to the US at finished ship prices. Patriots all.
Don’t take my word or it, check it out yourself. He wasn’t a Carter, or a Clinton, or an (spit) Obama, but his name ought not be uttered with the same breath that said REAGAN.
Maybe I was just a bit harsh on him...but not much.

“Don’t take my word or it, check it out yourself.”

I don’t have to check it out,I lived through all of it.

Sure he made mistakes, most presidents do,but Truman’s gutsiness and down-home attitude made people feel comfortable with him.

Read “Blacklisted by History” to find out about Truman.
