We have a couple of those portable AC units. Use it just to cool the room we basically use. They have been real handy when the house units breakdown.

I’ve been slowly teaching myself, learning and implementing on an old RV. My goal is a self-sufficient RV for dry-camping and emergencies. With sufficient budget it’s doable. I posted a link to a full solar setup for a large RV capable of running the whole shebang, that would be overkill in my instance. I’m planning on an inverter setup that permits power out also. Generator will remain, batteries can be charged with shore power, solar, generator or other inputs such as a wind turbine which I’m still looking into. Potable water and disposal of black water are the issues, water can be acquired, filtered and purified pretty easily here with effort. Blackwater tank can be emptied and composted but again with work and not an appealing task.

Oops. That’s what I meant.

I think you aren’t looking very hard. I bought a 16KW Generac system including an automatic transfer switch for just over $3000.00.

Great comments... I'll look harder for a cheaper Generac.... You don't have an old link to the one you bought by any chance, do you? Kidding. I'll give it a few months then look. I'll bet half of Florida's looking now - keeping prices high.

You’re welcome. Now is probably a bad time to try to do this as you note, since demand is going to be extremely high, not just on generators themselves but on the electricians and electrical contractors who would do any necessary work on putting in a generator panel and such so that you could power a limited number of things in the house, rather than the entire house.

That’s OK and thanks. I was thinking about it the wrong way and because of your post I actually learned a lot looking it up.
