I’m 50 years old, and I have never watched any Hollywood awards show in my life. None of my friends have either.

Even as a kid, I always though them as sentimental cliche-fests. Now that they have become highly political, I can imagine they are downright repulsive.

I'm a bit older but when growing up we watched the Oscars every year. The show was over-long but enjoyable, and the movies nominated for Best Picture were ones we had actually heard of and may have seen. Today these shows are unwatchable.

It was basically over the moment Marlon Brando turned over his Oscar acceptance speech to Sacheen Littlefeather in 1973. That started a process of virtue-signaling one-upmansship that has never ended, and will never end.
