Exactly, women having been having babies before hospitals and doctors, often while alone.

We seem to have forgotten that up until the 50’s most babies were born at home with the assistance of only a lay midwife.

My twin sister and I were born at home over 76 years ago. My mother’s midwife delivered my sister and me. My sister was born 15 minutes before I was. The midwife didn’t have a scale to weigh us, and she guessed that I weighed a little over 4 pounds. My sister weight about 41/2 pounds. My mother used to tell me that I was so small that I fit in a 1 liter bier stein
